Overview

If are Parent and you Have ever tried to teach a child  or even yourself  how to read the Holy Quran, you’ve probably heard the name Al Qaida-An-Noraniah. It is one of the most reputable and popular beginner’s techniques for mastering Quranic Arabic in the world. And it’s not surprising. It works.

Many novices start off reading long suras of the Quran without any prior preparation. This can cause problems and make them frustrated when they encounter challenges with letter transitions or vowel combinations. Al Qaida-An-Noraniah is the answer for the problem by acting as a bridge. It begins with individual letters and gradually progresses to words and short verses. This approach teaches you phonetics (pronunciation of spoken language) AND the rules of beautiful Quranic recitation (Tajweed) in a fun and colourful way.

There is no specific rote in the learning of Al Qaida An-Noraniah. It’s the idea of understanding, repetition and consistency. Let’s get it memorized the correct way, in a practical and human friendly manner.

Step 1: Start with Single Arabic Letters (Huroof-e-Tahajji)

In the first lesson you will learn the 29 Arabic letters called Huroof-e-Tahajji. These are the elements of all the words in the Quran. The first thing is to become familiar with the recognition and pronunciation of each one.

Tips to memorize single letters:

  • Say the letters over and over again 5-10 times a day
  • Flashcards or letter charts
  • Hear from a qualified Qari (Quran reciter) and emulate their voices
  • Write the letters to aid recall.
  • Match each letter with a common sound in your language

Take your time with this step. The letters are crucial and important if it is important to get them right from the start.

Step 2: Learn Compound Letters (Murakkabat)

When the single letters are firmly in your mind, you proceed to compound letters, that is, two or more letters that form syllables. For instance: با (Ba), لا (La), and more. This is where reading gets real!

Memorize compound letters:

How to memorize compound letters:

  • Repeat them rhythmically
  • Utilize audio support from Noor Spark Quaran
  • Repeat with teacher who corrects pronunciation while speaking.

Step 3: Master Short and Long Vowels (Harakat)

This is an important stage. The Arabic vowels (fatha, kasra and dhamma) alter the meaning and pronunciation of words entirely. Al Qaida An-Noraniah is an introduction to these vowel sounds one by one.

Step 4: Understand Sukoon and Shaddah

When a letter has no vowel, it is silent. Shaddah is a letter doubled in sound. Both play a key role in proper Tajweed recitation, and both are explained in the middle lessons of Al Qaida An-Noraniah.

Step 5: Learn Madd (Elongation Rules)

Madd is the extension of vowel sounds under certain circumstances. There are various types of Madd  Natural (Tabii), Connected (Muttasil), Separated (Munfasil), and others. Al Qaida An-Noraniah presents them in an easy to understand and learn manner without overwhelming the student

Step 6: Apply Basic Tajweed Rules

During the later lessons you will be using real rules of Tajweed such as Ghunnah (nasal sound), Idgham (merging letters), Ikhfa (hiding a sound) and Iqlab (converting a sound). These are the same rules that used by the professional Quran reciters around the world.

Step 7: Practice with Short Surahs and Duas

The last step is to read short Surahs (e.g. Surah Al-Fatiha, and the Juz Amma). This is the place where everything you have learned is combined. No longer you read the Qaida, now you’re reading the Quran.
