Overview

The first thing one should do when someone wants to read the Holy Quran correctly is to learn the Madani Qaida. From the beginning of Quran learning to the completion, Madani Qaida provides you with a solid and strong basis for Arabic pronunciation, pronunciation of letters, and basic rules of Tajweed.

The Madani Qaida has been created by Islamic scholars to ease the learning of the Quran, making it easy, systematic, and accessible for people of all ages. It dissects the Arabic language into simple and easy-to-learn lessons, beginning with letters, joined letters, vowel sounds (Harakat), Tanween, Madd, and then whole words and verses from the Quran. Unlike jumping straight into the Quran, in using the Madani Qaida, you will develop confidence in your recitation before you ever read an ayah.

Fortunately, thousands of Muslims worldwide are studying Madani Qaida online via one-to-one lessons with certified teachers and making this wonderful knowledge accessible to anyone, anywhere.

Why Learning Madani Qaida Is Essential

It is a duty for every Muslim child to learn to read the Quran, and learning it with the correct pronunciation is important spiritually and linguistically. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) would say:

The best of you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it. ( Sahih Bukhari )

If you begin with the Madani Qaida, you will take the following steps and continue on the right path. Some pupils fail to practice this and consequently pick up bad pronunciation habits, which are difficult to improve. The Madani Qaida provides you with:

  • Correct articulation (Makhaarij) : to be familiar with the place of each Arabic letter in the mouth and throat
  • Familiarity with the rules of Tajweed: reading the Quran as it was revealed, elongation, stopping, and joining
  • Faster progress: each lesson logically follows the other students learn the Quran much faster after finishing the Qaida

If you want to learn more about the rules of Tajweed and why it is important, you can read them on Noor Spark Quran, which is a great resource for beginners.

What Does the Madani Qaida Course Cover?

A well-structured Madani Qaida online course is broken down into clearly delineated lessons that are progressive. Let’s take a look at what you will learn:

  • Arabic Alphabet (Huroof): All 29 letters with correct pronunciation
  • Letter Forms: Beginning, middle, and end forms of letters
  • Short Vowels (Harakat): Fatha, Kasra, Damma
  • Tanween: Double Fatha, Kasra, Damma
  • Sukoon: Letters with no vowel sound
  • Shaddah: Doubled/stressed letters
  • Madd Letters: Alif, Waw, Ya elongation letters
  • Madd Rules: Different types of elongation in Tajweed
  • Laam Shamsiyya & Qamariyya: Solar and Lunar letters
  • Noon Sakinah & Tanween: Idghaam, Iqlaab, Ikhfaa, Izhar
  • Meem Sakinah: Ikhfaa, Idghaam, Izhar Shafawi
  • Tafkheem/Tarqeeq: Heavy and light letter pronunciation
  • Waqf: Where and how to stop while reciting
  • Practice: Real Quranic words and short verses

This curriculum will not work if the student only reads the letters in the booklet. Tajweed is an oral science, so your approach should be active, guided and acoustic training. To achieve the maximum progress, work in this structural system:

1: Ensure you have an authorised live instructor.

It is not possible to hear authentic Makhraj only through recorded audio or translation books. An expert tutor is able to tell by observing your face whether you are using a soft “T” or a sharp “T”. A live teacher can make live, interactive corrections that will help prevent bad vocal habits from becoming ingrained in your subconscious muscle memory.

2: Isolate and Master Your Articulation Points.

Avoid joining words too soon until the individual sounds for the more difficult throat letters, such as “ع” (Ayn) and “ح” (Haa), are produced with ease. Regularly practise the proper muscle movements to isolate the upper, middle and lower sections of the throat.

3: Make use of the Power of Daily, spaced repetition.

The act of reciting the Quran depends a lot on muscle memory. 15 minutes every morning is way better than one 2-hour session once a week. Re-learn previous lessons often to keep the tongue agile as lessons get harder.

4. Make a mindful move to full verses

From the time you get to Lesson 18, start reading the Holy Quran with your primer. Make an effort to be aware of what rule you just learnt, such as being able to recognise a Shaddah or a Ghunna nasalisation, in the shorter Surahs of Para 30. This intentional transposition is between structured drill and actual recitation.

FAQ's

What is the ideal age to start learning this primer?

No age limit. The alphabet is very easy to learn with colour-illustrated pictures; children as young as 4 or 5 years can easily learn it. At the same time, older learners will be able to use the same system to correct their pronunciation problems and improve their fluency.

Madani Qaida is a method for teaching Quranic reading and Arabic script to beginners. It includes pronunciation, vowel sounds, Tajweed basics, and reading practice, which is the preparation for the progression of reading the Holy Quran fluently.

Yes, absolutely. The last lessons are specially crafted to imitate authentic Quran verses. After learning the rules of stopping (Waqf) in the last module, you will have all the tools you need to start reciting the Holy Quran from the very first Surah.

A: While it focuses on reading, we often integrate the memorization of the last 10 Surahs to apply the rules learned in the Qaida.
